Handshake's Job Digest Email Design

User Experience Design and Content Design

Job digest emails sent to students on Handshake feature the latest curated job listings, including notes when employers are open to messaging and video chats; however, each job posting cell is entirely clickable, leading to the job posting itself. This creates confusion as the note about being open to messaging appears clickable as if it would take the user to a different destination. This posed a challenge in how to design and write the copy effectively.
To address these issues, I observed that the blue underlined titles created visual clutter, and the bold, blue copy for messaging employers competed for attention with the job titles, leading to a hierarchy problem. Other issues including alignment and wording only added to the poor user experience.
Final updates included using brand fonts for titles, removing the underline for better readability while keeping the blue color to indicate clickability, and top-justifying company logos for clarity. I condensed the messaging copy into one line and changed its color to gray to avoid the misleading impression of clickability and a separate destination, removing arrows for the same reason. These changes enhanced the email's scannability and improved user experience.
